The numbers are in! Our SI leaders saw a total of 156 students during our first ever Midterm Marathon back in October. Next semester, we'll be expanding the event to make it even bigger and better. We're going to be extending the event to two days and showcasing a lot more support for classes, as well as making it early enough to accomodate as many midterms as we can!

What is Supplemental Instruction?

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a FREE series of group study sessions led by an SI leader. These sessions supplement the course lecture and give you a chance to learn material in different ways. SI Sessions are group study sessions, where you will work with your classmates to go over lecture material in a relaxed environment. In SI, you will find answers to your questions, and learn techniques to master difficult material.
Who is the SI Leader?
SI leaders are successful undergraduate students who have taken the course they are supporting and performed strongly. They are recommended by faculty members and trained by the ASC. The SI leader will attend the lecture for your class and will hold 3-5 SI sessions per week. They will make frequent announcements in lecture to keep you informed about their sessions. The SI session schedule is also available here.
What is the goal of Supplemental Instruction?
SI is intended to help students become independent learners. If you attend SI, you can expect to learn new study skills, as well sharpen your existing skills for your future classes. SI leaders are successful students and role models for effective study habits, and will guide you in developing study strategies, problem-solving skills, and organizational skills.
What happens in SI?
In your SI sessions, you’ll:
  • Go over difficult and important concepts
  • Learn by collaborating with your classmates
  • Learn study skills and strategies to help you throughout college
  • Practice problems and drill material
  • Use practice quizzes and handouts made by the SI leader
  • Review material and prepare for exams
